TRY Australia’s Mentoring program is founded on the knowledge that having the support and guidance of a mentor encourages young people to recognise their strengths and develop their own personal attributes. Being matched to a fully screened volunteer gives the young person the opportunity to develop a significant friendship with an older mentor and a positive and safe environment to promote personal growth and increased self-esteem. The young person also has the opportunity to participate in a variety of different activities to grow socially and emotionally and is supported by professional staff and trained people who model positive, responsible behaviour.

Someone who can be both a positive role model and supportive friend. Mentors commit to spending a minimum of one hour a week with their mentee for 12 months. Group Mentoring programs provide school aged young people an opportunity to engage in a shared activity, based on the skill set of the mentor, for example, fitness, basketball or dance, etc. Mentors commit to weekly two hour classes for a 12 month period.
